Newsletter #48: Gettin' Hard
oh shit that's totally going to send this newsletter to your junk folder shit where's the edit button is it
I’m looking forward to THE FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER, but I have to admit, this bit from a commercial on twitter made me laugh, picturing Steve Rogers wondering what the fuck is going on.
CAPTAIN AMERICA FOUGHT NAZIS SO YOU CAN HEART THIS TWEET
Maybe it’s the cool brushed metal letters with the shiny parts that makes me laugh I don’t even know anymore I’m on month ninety-two of a pandemic
YOU OKAY, BUDDY
Yes! Sure! Why not!
I’m actually really okay because two books I’m enormously proud of are out this week!
First, is volume one of our DAREDEVIL run in HARDCOVER! It’s called TO HEAVEN THROUGH HELL, VOL. 1 and it collects issues #1-10 of our—you know what? I’m just gonna say it—ACCLAIMED RUN.
I haven’t seen one out in the wild yet, but I’m excited to. In fact, the only one I’ve seen so far is from the preview image of this youtube video:
I have not watched the video. I assume the nice person smiling and giving the thumbs up likes it, but who knows? Maybe it’s ironic and they hate it!
Anyway, it’s out and in the world this week and we’re all immensely proud of the work in it. If you’ve been holding off on picking up our run, this is probably a really nice way to experience it.
I’LL WATCH THE VIDEO AND LET YOU KNOW
Um, you’re me, so please don’t.
FINE, COWARD
I just … I have a longstanding tradition of mostly avoiding reviews of my work. The last thing I need is to think I’m good at a thing because someone I don’t know says I am. Or that I’m garbage because QuickComicReviews69 says I write Spiderman like a “soy boy cuck machine”. I gotta live my life, man!
TO BE FAIR YOU DO WRITE SPIDER-MAN LIKE A—
Shut up shut up shut upppp!
Okay. The other BIG THING out this week is our first collection of STILLWATER!
It’s called STILLWATER, VOL. 1: RAGE, RAGE cause I’m a real literary kind of guy, y’dig? It collects the first six issues of our run and I couldn’t be prouder of our little book. Look at that cover! Ramon! You’re the best!
The tagline of the series is “Nobody dies. In the town of Stillwater, that's not just a promise. It's a threat.” And this first collection really drives that tagline home, lemme tell you.
Go get it!
TOO SPOOKY SORRY
Fair!
Oh, and this just got teased:
For anyone who’s been reading the brilliant CROSSOVER, you know that in the world concocted by Donny, Geoff and Dee, I’m … well, I’m missing.
This is clearly some sort of fantasy world where Donny can dispose of other, more attractive, comic book writers.
Well, now it’s time to answer the question:
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE (CANADIAN) MAN OF TOMORROW?
YOU CAN’T BE SERIOUS
I am and I will!
WHAT
No, YOU “what”!
Out in May!
And while I may be missing in CROSSOVER, I’m very much alive in your earbuds! This week’s MANGASPLAINING has us tackling the extremely original WHAT THE FONT?! A book that asks the question: what if fonts were real people?!
If you’ve ever been interested in design, or wondered what the fuck Comic Sans would look like as a person, listen to this one and check out the show notes at our site!
And last but not least, our book AFTERLIFT was selected for this month’s GRAPHIC NOVEL CLUB hosted by Comix Experience! It will be a fun conversation with store owner and raconteur Brian Hibbs! On Wednesday night! TUNE IN!
That’s it from me! Stay safe and be a good person for once!
Love,
Chip!
