Hey HEY!
DSTLRY just announced the new book I’m co-writing with my fellow Mangasplainer, David Brothers! Anyone who’s listened to our show knows by now that David and I have similar tastes in stories, and one of our favourite tropes is “guy who left his violent past behind gets PULLED BACK IN,” and that’s TIME WAITS in a nutshell, but combined with some fun time travel elements!
Marcus To, who I’ve wanted to work with forever, is the lead on art, assisted by Marvin Sianipar. THE Matt Wilson is on colour art and the amazing Ariana Maher is lettering this bad boy! Three issues, 45 pages each of story. It’s GORGEOUS.
I’m really excited to work with the DSTLRY crew again, who helped usher in AFTERLIFT and THE ALL-NIGHTER over at Comixology. So excited in fact that this is just the first of FOUR PROJECTS that I’m doing with them! I’ve got an incredible lineup of creators working with me on everything and can’t wait for all of it to be out in the world.
Check out my interview with Forbes! Does this put me on track to get onto Forbes’ 400 Richest Americans list? No! Because I’m Canadian!
You’ll see a lot more about TIME WAITS and the other books in the coming months. You’ll be sick of me! Sick of me!!
I BELIEVE IT
Curled up in bed, clutching your stomach, screaming, “why did I go back for Zdarsky seconds and thirds?!”
Anyway, it’ll be fun.
But right now, in the present, we’ve got some BIG ONES out this week!
AVENGERS: TWILIGHT #6, our final issue, hits stands today!
It’s been quite the journey. I’m so happy that people have dug this series. Every page is full of our love for these characters and I hope it shows. Daniel Acuña is an absolute art master and this thing is going to hopefully live on forever in collected form.
Also out this week is NEWBURN VOLUME 2, the conclusion to our little crime series! I hope anyone collecting this in trades has managed to avoid the finale spoilers.
As you can tell by the photo above, I’m quite tired. Just got back from Comicpalooza in Houston and holy shit what an amazing show. I don’t think I’ve ever seen guests and attendees treated so well. Highly recommended. I even did an interview on Houston’s NPR station for anyone interested!
In Pal News, My TIME WAITS collaborator, David Brothers, has started a new Youtube endeavour, NO RELATION, where he digs into cultural things he finds interesting. The first one is great, as he dissects the new Childish Gambino video with Black Josei Press founder Jamila Rowser. Highly recommended!
David is one of those guys, unlike me, who’s always thinking smart thoughts. You can get more of them over at his excellent newsletter, which you can sign up for here!
Okay! Bye!

Gotta love those DSTLRY email threads where they have to specify which Chip
Damn. so many new books coming out, so few dollars to buy them all…why you have to put out so many good books and force me to stretch out my already limited funds for comics, ya bearded canucklehead? Why? 😭.
That being said, Avengers Twilight was a masterpiece of a story, and probably my number 1 reason for why I want to see you tackle the main Avengers line series one day. Something tells me you’d pull out even more of the stops with that one. Could even be better than, dare i say it…your DD run 🫢
Also that twist at the end, with the ring, never would have imagined something like that in 1000 years…bravo.
Something i have been wanting to ask, in regards to your Batman: in thee early issues of your run, Bruce in his internal monologues, always referred to the kids, his kids, as his soldiers in the damn war he wages on Gotham. I wanted to ask if, that was an intentional part expressing your view point of Bruce in how he views his protégés in and outside of Gotham, or if that mindset comes as a result of all that Bruce has been through up to that point, and strain it takes on him mentally, and one part Zur thrown in for good measure. I am aware he’s quick to decry this mindset not a few issues later, but I am uncertain if that, for the character, was an actual depiction of how he views them and he was only decrying it because Zur was throwing it in his face, or if that mindset of seeing his kids as his soldiers is really how he sees them nowadays. After all, more and more it seems like all he has left is the mission.
BTW, as The Knight has been such a significant part of your ongoing Batman series, I have to confess I am somewhat surprised that someone who had such a part in that tale like Ra’s, has not been included in some part here as of yet. True he’s currently a pile of ashes in a jar Talia keeps on her mantle, but when has that ever kept a good comic book villain down? 😂
Anyways, as always, wonderful wonderful work on all you have done, Chip. I eagerly await the next releases, and whatever upcoming new books you have in the works.
