Damn. so many new books coming out, so few dollars to buy them all…why you have to put out so many good books and force me to stretch out my already limited funds for comics, ya bearded canucklehead? Why? 😭.
That being said, Avengers Twilight was a masterpiece of a story, and probably my number 1 reason for why I want to see you tackle the main Avengers line series one day. Something tells me you’d pull out even more of the stops with that one. Could even be better than, dare i say it…your DD run 🫢
Also that twist at the end, with the ring, never would have imagined something like that in 1000 years…bravo.
Something i have been wanting to ask, in regards to your Batman: in thee early issues of your run, Bruce in his internal monologues, always referred to the kids, his kids, as his soldiers in the damn war he wages on Gotham. I wanted to ask if, that was an intentional part expressing your view point of Bruce in how he views his protégés in and outside of Gotham, or if that mindset comes as a result of all that Bruce has been through up to that point, and strain it takes on him mentally, and one part Zur thrown in for good measure. I am aware he’s quick to decry this mindset not a few issues later, but I am uncertain if that, for the character, was an actual depiction of how he views them and he was only decrying it because Zur was throwing it in his face, or if that mindset of seeing his kids as his soldiers is really how he sees them nowadays. After all, more and more it seems like all he has left is the mission.
BTW, as The Knight has been such a significant part of your ongoing Batman series, I have to confess I am somewhat surprised that someone who had such a part in that tale like Ra’s, has not been included in some part here as of yet. True he’s currently a pile of ashes in a jar Talia keeps on her mantle, but when has that ever kept a good comic book villain down? 😂
Anyways, as always, wonderful wonderful work on all you have done, Chip. I eagerly await the next releases, and whatever upcoming new books you have in the works.
Oh good. I’m glad I’m able to put that question to bed. I was starting to hate Bats here if he’d really sunk so low as to start calling his sons and daughters his soldiers. I mean, I like Batman, but I’m cognitive enough to realize he’s an obsessive narcissistic masochist who is beyond traumatized since he was 8, to the point where he spent years pushing himself through ridiculous stuff and now dresses up as a human bat…anyone else we’d be popping them with Thorazine. One of the only things I think that keeps readers from looking point blank and saying “this guy’s crazy” is the human and family aspect of the character. Should he devolve to what Zur is full time…I suspect he’d be slightly less popular in the readers department.
I was hoping the monthly Chiplist of titles would edge back up soon and sounds like we are headed in that direction. And DSTLRY have been killing it producing beautiful comics that are too big to fit in my house but I have to buy anyway.
I enjoy the AVENGERS , damn I was not ready for this , good story ! oh yes I got a question , I saw that your going at Portland for a signing on sep 6-8 , and this Is my first time ever going to a comic con , how do I get in ? do I buy a ticket online or pay for it on the entrance? its very confusing , and im planning bringing all the books you wrote to get signed and definitely want a spidey drawing! cant wait for the next book your cooking! Your the goat chip!
thank you this helps ! I was gonna bring avengers twilight , daredevil reign , newburn vol 1-2 public domain and batman vol 1 failsafe hardcover ,its the first batman hardcover I ever got ( I got it after gradation )
Woo hoo! Chip DSTLRY! I've loved the ones I've read so far!
And what an ending to Avengers Twilight! I know you wrote it years ago, but damn did it feel prescient now. Did you ever feel tempted to go in and change things in the scripts?
Thankfully, Chip you are not dying: Just really freaking busy. YAY!
Waiting on my subscription copy of Avengers Twilight 6, looking forward to reading it. I’ve really enjoyed this story.
Congratulations on the DSTLRY signing. Looking forward to hearing what else is coming. Swanky, you’ve been featured in Forbes.
And I know you’re recovering from the Houston con: Isn’t the Creepshow anthology coming out in September too?
And Minties interview, Cool you borrow fights from Hong Kong action films.👏👏 What is the one fight you wish you could pinch from an HK film and put into a comic?
Yes! Good catch on Creepshow! Will add it in next week! And I don't have anything specifically in mind with HK fight scenes, but I love whenever random ladders are used ha ha
Chip, as some lady said, "...There's always a bomb falling." She also said, "HNH!" Let that be our watchword: "HNH!" Face Z-axis, Zdarkskies, and die. "HN!"
Twilight has been a treat and I'm excited to see how it all ends. For the first time, I actually feel the avengers importance in the wider MU rather than being told how important they are, and that's pretty sick
Gotta love those DSTLRY email threads where they have to specify which Chip
should've brought in Chip Kidd to do design on them
Chip Off the Old Block, coming to CBC this summer
This is because Stegman got a DSTLRY title too, right? If he gets one, you get three?
Looking forward to it. They've been putting out some good stuff.
Three + one.

Yes! That was Zur coming though with regard to the "soldiers" talk! And I love Ra's, but I think my story was too crowded as it is! Ha!

Fair enough.
Time Waits looks awesome. Going to have to invest in another magazine-shaped short box now.
TIME WAITS looks so good! Marcus and David are awesome. It's all awesome!
it's gonna be a good one!!
I certainly HOPE so.

Yeah! They all look SO DAMNED GOOD
Chip writing a Tom Waits auto-bio for DSTLRY? I'm in!
oh wait...
smh I'm expecting this joke a LOT in the next few months
If it becomes a thing, then I apologize for recording a reading of the first issue in the key of Tom Waits.
oh god

Well, you buy a badge to get in, usually in advance to make sure you get one!
https://checkout.conventions.leapevent.tech/eh/Rose_City_Comic_Con_2024
You can buy for just a day, or for the whole weekend. There will be a lot of cool creators there!
And for signings, I'll sign anything for free if I personalize it to you! The company I work for charges if it's JUST a signature.
Hope that helps!

Nothing major? But I always tweak things before the script goes to the letterer, mostly so I can better match the art that came in

Have a nice restful remainder to your week, Chip.

dear chip,
congrats on all of this!
i'm very excited to be sick of you!
to have an over-full violent reaction, only to be pulled back in for one last job: continuing to enjoy everything you create forever
thanks and love,
