Well this was a fun, weird announcement!
Apparently Marvel is putting out a GIANT HARDCOVER of my Spider-Man work! So, all of Spectacular Spider-Man, Life Story and Spider’s Shadow! That’s, like, 800 pages of Spider-Man? Is it too much Spider-Man? Yes, probably.
It definitely makes me feel old, or at the very least, done? Like this brick of a book is a tombstone for a period of my life where I wrote Peter … I want to say Parker? It’s been a while.
Anyway! It’ll be nice to have this on my shelf! Maybe it’ll be nice for you to have on your shelf! Provided your shelf is super sturdy, I guess.
Of course I immediately emailed one of Marvel’s Vice Presidents to see if I could do a cover for this. They seemed reluctant until I sent them my mock up:

Speaking of big ol’ hardcovers, I was alerted this week that my copies of BATMAN: FAILSAFE have arrived! As everyone knows I live on a remote island so I don’t get copies of anything here, but a friend lovingly opens my mail in Toronto and sends me pictures:
Ooooo that looks nice. There’s even a Barnes & Noble edition! Fancy! But the really cool thing that I was NOT expecting, was this:
They used my variant cover for the Indigo exclusive here in Canada! I’m not just a Batman cover artist, I’m a HARDCOVER Batman cover artist! Now Marvel really has to let me illustrate a Spider-Man cover!!!!

But enough about the printed material! Comics aren’t about that! They’re about the TOYS! And Hasbro just unveiled a new action figure of Marco’s incredible Elektra Daredevil design!
Wow. If I could go back in time and tell me as a kid that there would be an action figure based on one of our characters, Li’l Chip would probably ask which one. And then I’d say, “It’s Elektra but she’s dressed as Daredevil” and Li’l Chip would go, “Oh. Is that … do you really consider just mashing two previously existing characters as YOUR character? Did you design something new and cool for it?”
“Well, no. My friend Marco did …”
“So you didn’t become a comic book artist? We draw all the time!”
“I did! I’m a comic book artist too!”
“Nice! What do you draw?”
“I … I, uh, drew a book called ‘Sex Criminals’ and … and I’m currently drawing a book about … about copyright law and—and a family struggling to … maintain their creation in the face of—”
“Just stop right there. Get out.”

Anyway! Everything is great and fun and I’m loving life! I’m especially loving life now that there’s a new GINA WYNBRANDT comic in the world! Eagle-eyed readers will recognize that name from her amazing Sex Criminals XXX variant cover a few years ago. I love her work. It’s incredibly funny in just the perfect ways. Go buy her latest!
