A Confusing Pleasure Being Nominated
Plus! RIP ZCN??
Well that’s a fun bit of news that I was not expecting: ZDARSKY COMIC NEWS has been nominated for an Eisner Award in the category Best Comics-Related Periodical/Journalism (ha ha “journalism”)! I did not submit it for judging so someone at the Eisners had to go “this needs to be in here” and managed to shoehorn it into the category, which is wild to me. My fellow comic industry professionals can vote for me (or against me) here.
Overriding my confusion is a feeling of … happiness?? Is that what this feeling is?! I’m super pleased that this dumb little promotional stunt has turned into something bigger and, hopefully, more interesting. But this feeling and moment is sadly fleeting as there have been some behind-the-scenes issues that ZCN has been dealing with…
Due to some unforeseen financial difficulties and an unfortunate ruling by the Ontario Bankruptcy Court, ZCN has been acquired by Stegman Holdings LLC and will now be known as Stegman’s Health, a magazine about nutrition, well-being, and why X-Men comics are incredibly cool. Obviously after spending the past year making this the premiere EISNER-NOMINATED publication about comics, I’m disheartened that it’s now going to be shit, but this is the world we live in.
I wish Mr. Stegman all the best.
Speaking of ZDARSKY COMIC NEWS (RIP), issue #11 came out this week! It has fun interviews with Cody Ziglar and Vita Ayala and a double-page spread feature about the upcoming DC/MARVEL crossover! With a classic, incendiary editorial from yours truly.
