It’s a bit of a big week around these parts! First up, AVENGERS: TWILIGHT finally begins! I just checked my old emails (I keep everything for alibi purposes) and the first email I received from editor Tom Brevoort about this project was in March 2019, so it’s been a loooong time coming. Six oversized issues fully illustrated by the legendary Daniel Acuña about the future of the Avengers. Here’s the cover to issue one.
Illustration by Daniel, design by me:
He’s so damned good. I really don’t want to spoil anything, so here’s just one beauuuutiful page from it:
We’re really proud of it. Even Tom’s proud of it! If Tom’s proud of something you know it’s quality. Or it’s some weird old comic nobody knows about.
Go check it out! Buy one for yourself and a backup copy in case someone steals it when they hear how good it is!
Next up is an end of an era. The final issue of KAPTARA.
This book started way back in 2015, simply because I wanted to see Kagan draw ludicrous muscle men and weird creatures. He’s so incredibly talented and funny, I feel like if he were born thirty years earlier he would have broken minds working for MAD Magazine.
Getting to work with one of my best friends in the world on this was truly a joy. If you don’t follow Kagan on instagram, get on it, you philistine!!
To celebrate this milestone and to acknowledge the ravages of time, here we are back in 2015, promoting the first series. Kagan has aged ever so slightly since then and I have become Deathworth The Grey, roaming our fair lands for blood and youthful joy.
In other news, can you believe we’ve recorded 109 episodes of Mangasplaining?! I know I don’t mention it a lot here because it comes out almost as much as Batman issues, but we’re still truckin’ along and having fun reading manga. I’m basically an expert by now.
This week we read RIVER’S EDGE by Kyoko Okazaki, which is a very good and very intense high school drama for mature readers and also for me. To give you an idea of both the subject matter and my keen critical eye, here’s a snippet from the show notes:
Finally I have some great news for the Pacific Northwest, one of my top three favourite Pacific directions! I’m going to be at EMERALD CITY COMIC CON!!
Look at how tired and old I am! The years, man, the years…
But I swear I’ll be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed From February 29 to March 3 at the Seattle Convention Center!!!
BUSHY-TAILED?
Look, it’s a saying
SOUNDS SEXUAL
Not everything is sexual!!!
Goodbye!!!!!

I don't know I've ever heard Kaptara said aloud. Don't tell anyone I was pronouncing like Kap-tair-uh all this time. I'll be ruined!
