The most intimidating part of writing Batman is that I’ve never read a Batman comic or watched a Batman movie or TV show or played a Batman video game. The SECOND most intimidating part is following in the footsteps of so many wildly talented writers!
Scott Snyder is, arguably, the one to put the biggest mark on the character in the past twenty years. Court of Owls alone is enough to secure him in the pantheon of Bat-Writers, but the passion he’s had for the character is evident in everything he bat-touches. He’s THE GUY when it comes to Batman and I have it on good authority that he has several secret Batman tattoos (A lower back tattoo that says THE BATCAVE being the strangest, but who am I to judge? Mine is Batman in Year One saying “you have eaten well” on my ever-growing stomach).
So I’m properly chuffed to be “TALKIN’ BATS” with Scott tonight live over on Youtube at 9:15 EST!
You should swing by! It’ll be a NICE TIME!
OKAY I WILL
Thank you
Besides that, it’s a BLESSEDLY SHORT newsletter from me today! I recently binged the new Kids In The Hall episodes and the documentary about them, which was all amazing.
But then my little brother texted me a screen grab from the documentary:
That wildly suburban family in the centre is MY family! When I was a teenager my parents got us all tickets to a taping for my birthday even thought they didn’t “get” the Kids and thought me liking them so much meant I was gay, which, at the time, THIRTY YEARS AGO, would have meant a very hard life growing up in a Canadian hockey town. How lovely is that? I get a little choked up at how supportive they’ve always been! I almost never talk about anything from my real life, but this was such a cool thing to see, a weird snapshot of our life at that time. I love my family!
LOL YOU WUSS
See?! This is why I don’t talk about my personal life!!!
Okay, that’s it for this week! Though, I have a parting gift for my fellow Marvel and DC comic writers. I made this earlier in the week when discussing some conflicting continuity issues in one of my perfect scripts. Use freely! YOU’RE WELCOME.
Bye!
I think I made somebody jealous today when I showed off my ANIME print and signed Comixology trading card of the ol’ Chipster topless. (Well… jealous or uncomfortable, but either one is a win in my book.)
My kids are always fighting with me about "continuity": "Dad, can we have waffles today?" "Dad, can we have ice cream?" NO! Today is the regular gruel I serve you like I do every day. "But Dad remember when you let us eat breakfast in front of the TV before school?" That was like an annual! It doesn't count!
