THE BATMAN #125 LAUNCH IS DEAD! LONG LIVE THE DAREDEVIL #1 (AGAIN) LAUNCH!
(Shamelessly stolen from Conni)
This week was very surreal. Batman is out! I wrote it! And yet the world is still on fire. I thought this would cure all of society’s problems, but it turns out … I was wrong?
Maybe Daredevil #1 will do it!
I did an interview with Kuljit, who runs the essential (for me!) manwithoutfear.com site, about the relaunch of Daredevil. I drop some HINTS and also outline my “process” which is “do too much work.”
Also! Next week I’m doing a DAREDEVIL AMA over on the DD Reddit! I will answer all Daredevil questions with vague Daredevil answers and will answer all Batman questions ALSO with vague Daredevil answers. Got it? Good! Great!
YOU’RE SUCH A BROODING SUPERHERO SLUT
Don’t you dare superhero slut shame me! They both know my deal! I’m not ready to commit to just one bad boy on a gargoyle in the rain.
Speaking of Mr. Daredevil, I’ve got an exciting EXCLUSIVE for zdarsky dot substack readers!
Our giant-sized issue two (don’t ask) is full of classic DD artists. But ALSO …
…a new short story from ANN NOCENTI!!
That’s right! My favourite Daredevil writer (sorry everyone else) was kind enough to join us for this issue and make my story look like garbage!! I also have the inside scoop on the artist for it but Marvel won’t let me say just yet because they’re mean.
Anyhoo, this is a nice opportunity to re-post my conversation with Ms. Nocenti from a couple of years ago. Looking at this it’s very evident that I’ve aged horribly in the last couple of years. Oh well!!!
Speaking of interviews, I also talked to BAT-FORCE RADIO this week about Batman 125! It’s full of spoilers so be careful! Don’t hurt yourself!
GOD I’M SO TIRED OF YOUR VOICE
Yeah, well I’m tired of YOUR voice! It’s all anyone’s talking about! Others are even COPYING it!
Tini was very kind in her recent newsletter about my new Batman comic. Her Catwoman run is AMAZING and part of the fun of this gig has been working with her on making cool stuff. Cool stuff!!!
I DON’T CARE FOR THE FACT THAT SHE’S MAKING FUN OF ME
Oh, grow up!! Here’s MORE of my voice just to PUNISH you!
I always forget to link out to my MANGASPLAINING podcast that I do with David, Deb and Christopher, but we’re still trucking along and I am now basically a manga expert
WHAT IS MANGA
Uh … Japanese comics?
THEN WHY THE DIFFERENT NAME? WHY NOT JUST CALL THEM “COMICS?” DO THEY HAVE TO BE CREATED BY JAPANESE CITIZENS TO BE CALLED MANGA? WHAT ABOUT ALL THE WORK CREATED ELSEWHERE THAT IS DONE IN A “MANGA STYLE?” ARE THOSE MANGA? FROM WHAT I CAN TELL MANGA HAS A WIDE VARIETY OF STYLES SO I’M NOT SURE THAT’S A GREAT WAY TO DEFINE IT
Uh. Anyway, this week’s episode is very NSFW as we delve into gay erotic manga with MASSIVE: GAY EROTIC MANGA AND THE MEN WHO MAKE IT! The show notes are also massive and also VERY NSFW!
And, as a reminder, you can sign up for those show notes to be delivered to your inbox every week along with other excellent manga content at MSX!
In other news, I got to read the first issue of the soon-to-be-hit series from Image Comics called GOLDEN RAGE!
It’s written by Friend Of The Stack Chrissy Williams, an amazing poet who has also sadly had to edit Kieron Gillen’s work for years. She’s joined up with the incredible Lauren Knight and Sofìe Dodgson on visuals to make this fresh series about older women fighting for their lives while forming friendships. It’s a remarkable book on so many levels. It’s been pitched as “Golden Girls meets Battle Royale,” but it’s much more than that. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Orders go in from comic shops today so let them know you want it real bad!
And I think that’s it for me this week? It’s a PUBLIC DOMAIN posting day, but this newsletter got loooong so I’m going to post it over the weekend instead!
For now I’m going to leave you with this week’s discovery, that Batman’s paranoia extends to twitter (as it should):
Bye!!!!
I am looking forward to the Batman/Daredevil romance comic. Maybe the reason they’re so mission driven is they just keep missing each other.
Batman was great. So excited to see where this run leads. Also, my inner Tim Drake fan was, well ,terrified and thrilled.
Loved it.
