Today is an IMPORTANT DAY™. Not in the grand sense of, like, democracy and stuff, but it IS the day that NEWBURN VOL. 1 is in comic shops! Collecting issues 1-8 of our main story, it’s some hard-boiled crime drama from me, Mr. Hard Boiled Crime Drama and the amazing Jacob Phillips who drew, coloured and lettered the damn thing! He’s too good! He MUST be stopped!
He also just absolutely dragged me on our dedications page:
For the record, I #respectwomen. Thank you for your son, #Janette.
Anyhoo! Because it’s the BIG DAY, I wanted to do something special! So, for those of you out there who haven’t read any of Newburn yet because you, like, just got out of prison, or woke up from a coma, or woke up from a coma to discover you were in a prison, but pieced it all together and managed to free yourself, I’m posting our main story from issue one for FREE!
Also out today is issue nine of THE ALL-NIGHTER! It’s a wild one and, as always, Jason, Paris and Aditya knocked it out of the park. Some really fun Francis moments in this one (aka Allison’s favourite character). You can see a preview below!
In “Chip talks too much” news, I did an interview about Mr. Batman for all of ITALY:
And last night Tom Scharpling asked me to call in to THE BEST SHOW because he has Batman ideas and doesn’t understand that I legally can’t hear his Batman ideas:
I’m still obsessed with Tom Brevoort’s Substack so I feel like this is going to be a regular feature here. It’s this week’s roundup, which I’m calling:
THE BREVORTEX
In this week’s substack, Tom…
casually mentions that ex-Marvel Publisher Bill Jemas told Geoff Johns that he “didn’t know how to write”
casually mentions that Brad Meltzer and Julian Tedesco had the best story in MARVEL COMICS #1000 even though I also had a story in it
casually mentions that Neil Gaiman attended a Marvel editorial retreat to tell everyone the ending of MIRACLE/MARVELMAN
casually mentions that there is footage of him in an off-Broadway production put on by then-DC Editor Steve Wacker, where Tom gave away Fantastic Four comics.
casually mentions that he was forced to watch Top Gun forty times by an old girlfriend, which may be a VHS cuckolding I’m not entirely sure
All I know is, every comic writer I know reads his newsletter religiously to make sure he’s not casually mentioning us and our shortcomings.
And that’s it for today! Enjoy “hump day”!
Love,
Chip
P.S. oh here’s a dumb thing I made years ago and I can’t even remember what it was for bye
Brevoort called me a “faithful reader” this week!! Now everyone looks at me with a newfound respect!!
Thanks for venturing into the Brevoort Zone so we don't have to (nothing against the guy, but there's only so much time in the day and room in the inbox).
