Newsletter #34: Sincerest Apologies
"Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." -The Dalai Lama
Last week’s newsletter was an admittedly mean-spirited—though also admittedly extremely true—attack on a fellow comic creator. A lot of people told me it was “over the line” and “accurate” and I’ve come to realize this is NOT how I want to conduct myself in the business of comics, aka the comic business.
So, after a lot of soul searching and consultation with my wife and seven handsome sons, I’ve decided to ease up on Mr. Ryan Stegman in the coming weeks, only doling out playful jabs when he absolutely faceplants and shits himself in public instead of just kind of.
THAT’S REALLY BIG OF YOU
We can all stand to be a little bit better.
Speaking of better (than Ryan), Friend of the ‘Letter Elsa Charretier’s Kickstarter just keeps getting more and more impressive as it goes on! I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of one of her stretch goals and time is running out to make it happen, so please go support this stellar project! Elsa is one of the world’s greatest comic artists and this is a true opportunity to see how she works and how her collaborators work as well. Matt Fraction (Friend of the ‘Letter) has basically written a textbook for this Kickstarter about their amazing Image project November (Volume 3 out this week!)
So, yeah! If the Kickstarter hits $140,000USD in the next few days, I’ll be writing a brand-new 14-page comic for Elsa to illustrate, which will come free with the artbook! You’d be a fool (Ryan) to pass it up! A fool!
I even did a video for it! Wow!
WOW
That’s what I said! Wow!
Speaking of Kickstarters, is there anyone more entertaining than Andy “Bob “The Animal” Anger” Belanger? Go back his new project, MOTHER TRUCKER after you watch his incredible campaign video.
WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON
Well! It’s a big release week for the ol’ Chipster, so I’ve been running around the house shouting “IT’S A BIG RELEASE WEEK” a lot!
STILLWATER #2 is out this Wednesday!
It’s CREEPY! Ramon and Mike make creepy pretty! I think you should buy it if I’m being honest!
And also DAREDEVIL #23 is out!
Look, I don’t need to hard sell you on this, especially when Marco and Marcio are making pages look this good:
Like, come ON.
SO MUCH BETTER WITHOUT THE WORDS
Rude! But also, true!
SO I GUESS THAT’S IT THEN TIME TO WRAP UP THE NEWSLETTER
You’d think so! But!
Since I launched this newsletter, it’s become the go-to spot for industry news, with many, many subscribers, most of whom are true movers and shakers within the comic book world. One industry insider told me it was “like Bleeding Cool, but with standards” and I really couldn’t disagree. As a result, I’m now being flooded with requests to promote projects. You know, say a few kind words about Green Lantern, tip my hat toward Thunderbolts, that kind of thing.
This week however, one stands out above them all because they paid me fifty dollars: This Wednesday Panel Syndicate releases issue two of FRIDAY by Ed Brubaker, Marcos Martin and Muntsa Vicente! It’s gorgeous! Don’t beliueve me? Check out this EXCLUSIVE PAGE!
So head HERE on WEDNESDAY for FRIDAY!
Bye!
And remember: be a force for kindness and good.
Love,
Chip
