Okay! So, this feels weird to say, but: I’m writing a JUSTICE LEAGUE story! It’s a miniseries called JUSTICE LEAGUE: LAST RIDE and will be illustrated by Miguel Mendonça and coloured by Enrica Eren Angiolini!
Here’s the issue one cover by the legendary Darick Robertson and the variant by our series artist Miguel!
WHAT THE FUCK I HAVE A MILLION QUESTIONS
Shoot!
IS SUPERMAN IN IT
Uh, yeah.
IS WONDER WOMAN IN IT
I … she is.
IS BATMAN IN IT
Do you think the above images are, like, fakeouts or something? YES, they’re in it. When DC approached me about the project they said I could use whatever characters I wanted, that this book should feel timeless (like me), so I leaned pretty heavily into one of my favourite incarnations of the League: the animated version.
There are a lot of surprises and characters in this.
OKAY, SO WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN
It’s about the Justice League being cut down at their height, about hard decisions and friendship. They’re brought together for the universe’s greatest murder trial in the hopes that they can create a universe that no longer needs a Justice League.
SORRY I MEANT WHO ARE THEY PUNCHING
It’s a secret sorry
Anyway! It’s a digital first series, starting April 14, and then single issues following shortly after in May. The editors keep telling me I’m doing a good job, but maybe they just mean my spelling is good?
OKAY COOL WELL I GUESS THAT’S ANOTHER NEWSLETTER WRAPPED—
Wait one second! I may be writing some Batman, but never forget the original Red Batman! This week the second part of our KING IN BLACK tie-in comes out with DAREDEVIL #27! It’s big action and is going to lead to some big fallout! Look at that beautiful Marco and Matt cover:
There are variants too. So many variants for this and 25 and 26, a bunch of them spoilers. I know I should just give up on the spoilers, but THIS newsletter is spoiler free until the trade comes out! That’s a Zdarsky Substack Dot Com promise!!
THANK YOU
Also! If you’re around later today, Jason and I will be on COMIC BOOK CLUB live! Anything can happen! Yikes!
AFTERLIFT came out last week but we’re relentless in our pursuit of total PR dominance! Here are some fun interviews and articles if you’re at the office (home) and your boss isn’t looking (you quit zoom)!
And that’s it this week! Hard to believe how far I’ve managed to come since this failed pitch to DC years ago:
So even in a JLA story, you're going with a trial, huh. That red Batman is doing a number on you, isn't he?
