Recently I was asked to do the video introduction for a HOWARD THE DUCK screening in Virginia. I don’t take such requests lightly. It may look like I do as I didn’t change my shirt, get a haircut, trim my beard, use proper lighting, add a background or do more than one take, but I am still a professional and wanted to give them a proper introduction to play for the five or six people who came out:
WOULD YOU PLEASE SPEAK AT MY WEDDING
My speaking fee is $10,000 for a five minute speech. I write Batman!!!
SPEAKING OF MR. BATMAN:
BATMAN 132 is out today! Part two of THE BAT-MAN OF GOTHAM! As you can see from the above, Bruce has once again DONNED THE TOQUE (KNITTED CAP) in his pursuit of beating up monstrous cops. Mike, Adriano and Tomeu are all-stars on this one. And the backup story has Robin looking for Batman under every rock and toque, illustrated beautifully by Miguel and Roman!
And jeez, tomorrow is DAREDEVIL #8! Just another boring issue:
It’s actually very intense!!! Marco is at his peak! Matt Wilson and Erick Arciniega make it all shine with a wild palette!
I’ve been looking forward to this issue coming out for a long, long time.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO NOW THAT IT’S COMING OUT
grabbing a nap I guess
I recently had a great chat with THE COMICS COLLECTIVE about all sorts of stuff PUBLIC DOMAIN being the main thing! Though we really did dig into the difference between writing creator-owned and corporate comics. It was fun! Maybe fun to listen to? I don’t know
I also chatted with BATMAN NEWS (your source for news about someone who isn’t real) about the latest arc, specifically the Tim Drake backup!
Lastly, someone posted a cute drawing of me and Matthew Fraction.
Next year is … it’s … oh god it’s hard to even TYPE this …
…It’s going to be the tenth anniversary of SEX CRIMINALS.
WHAT THE FUCK
I know!!! Matt and I have been discussing what to do for it. I keep pitching for us to put out a PG-rated version of the comic where I put potted plants in front of all the dongs, but he doesn’t think that will lose us enough money to truly be a “Matt and Chip” idea.
STAY TUNED!
Okay! I’m finally digging into your Qs so I can A! Let’s go!
Hey Chip, Patrick here, given that you’re writing Batman and all now I was wondering how you define the original three Robins. What do Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake mean to you as a reader/ fan of the characters/comics, as the writer of said comics, and what do you think they mean to Bruce Wayne? I’m beyond glad you’re feeling better cause I’d rather give money to you than Ryan Stegman (this is a joke, he’s a cool dude). Have a good one

Mom, you can stop reading at this point. I don’t want you to have to see your 47-year old son talk about the various Robins. It’s embarrassing.
I love all Robins!!!
I’d say Dick represents lightness, the original fun-loving contrast to Batman. He’s the most natural in the role, partly because he originated it. I see him more as a brother to Bruce than a son as it feels like they grew up together in these roles.
Jason, obviously, is the flip side to Dick. Darker, more anguished. The Robin mantle never quite suited him. He’s Bruce’s son that Bruce desperately wants to save, over and over again.
Tim is the most ROBIN Robin, if that makes sense. He’s the one who sought out the role, who worked hardest for it. He’s the one who has an eye on Bruce more than the rest since he’s the most aware of the fact that Bruce can slip into darkness without a proper support system.
And don’t forget about Damian!! I haven’t had a chance to write him yet, but I love reading stories with him in them. He’s a firecracker, almost supernatural in his personality and abilities, with a super distinct voice. For Bruce, he represents a challenge, to undo the damage done and to redirect his outlook. He’s not lost, like Jason was. He’s just got a very different outlook.
LOL YOU THINK ABOUT ROBIN TOO MUCH
It’s my job!!!
ok bye
I like Damian. I don't think he'd like the Howard the Duck movie either.
Tim IS the most Robin Robin. Good call.
