Batman, Godzilla, Etc.

I took Friday off from ye olde newsletter because I got BOOSTED and WRECKED for a couple of days. Did I want another vaccine shot? No. But I’m a hero to children across the world and it would be irresponsible to NOT get one. So go out there and get your #chiptip(needle)!!

Yesterday I was on the set of the Godzilla, Etc. teevee show visiting my dear old chum Mr. Matt Fraction! It was an incredibly long day as Godzilla kept fucking up his lines. At first it was funny and he’d crack a joke when he’d do it, like “ha ha would’ve been nice if the nuclear radiation also gave me a super-sized memory,” but by the tenth reset nobody was laughing and Godzilla genuinely looked ashamed. He’d kind of kick around some rubble while muttering to himself. It was really sweet though seeing how Matt handled it all. He’d take Godzilla aside and gently remind him that he’s the star and that if he fucked up one more time everyone would hate him forever.

Godzilla nailed take eleven.

Unfortunately Matt no longer thought the lines worked so Godzilla had to go back to his trailer to learn the new lines, which would take another hour and a half. That’s Hollywood, baby!

In other news, BATMAN 128 is out today! Can you believe I’ve had four Batman issues come out and I still haven’t been fired? I’ll tell you my secret: Jorge Jimenez!

Like, come ON.

Also! This issue begins a new backup story with art by Leonardo Romero and Jordie Bellaire! I know sometimes backup stories feel like “filler.” But you’re paying top dollar for these books! My apologetic Canadian soul would hurt if you thought any part of the comics I work on is just filler! This backup is absolutely gorgeous and was totally fun to write. We’re going deep into one of my favourite Batman stories, BATMAN R.I.P., written by the genius Grant Morrison, with a story about the origins of ZUR-EN-ARRH.

In Red Batman news, I just found out that they’re doing a variant cover for our issue five, which will have Daredevil’s cooooool new costume designed by Marco! I know I’m biased, but I love it!
