Okay, let me just get this part out of the way, yeah?
Tomorrow is BATMAN 127 DAY!! I want to show pages from it but everything is basically an action-packed spoiler, so here’s a panel of Batman doing some detective work, trying to figure out why his back is so hot:
THAT’S OUR BATMAN
It sure is! At least until DC wises up and fires me!
But you know what? There are comics out there that AREN’T Batman!
GASP
And some of them are even GREAT! Here are ones that I’m looking forward to!
DUCKS! Kate Beaton is Canada’s greatest cartoonist (fuck you, Seth!!!!) and she’s been working on this book for YEARS. It’s about her time working in the Albertan oil sands and I can’t wait to have this book in my hands. If I wasn’t living one million miles away I would attend one of these signings, that’s for sure. I would push Seth out of the way just as he was about the get a signature from her (on his copy of Strange Tales II #1) so I could tell Kate how great she is to her face!
KAYA! Wes Craig is a master cartoonist and it’s a real delight seeing him unleashed in this new post-apocalyptic fantasy Image series. KAYA is a delight, and if you don’t buy it? You’re sick! In the head!
ROAMING! My favourite graphic novels of this past decade have been SKIM and THIS ONE SUMMER by Mariko and Jillian Tamaki. I’m incredibly excited that they’ve teamed up again for a story of young adults visiting New York City. Jillian’s art makes me very, very mad it’s so good
DARK RIDE! This new Skybound book from Josh Williamson and Andrei Bressan is an amazing trip through a terrifying amusement park looking for its next big attraction. A great cast of characters and beautiful vivid art make this the NEXT BIG THING from Image/Skybound!
And now I have something special for my paid subscribers. A behind-the scenes tour of my Daredevil short story that I did with the legendary Ann Nocenti! Let’s do this!
