Last night, my dear editor and Chipclass student Allison O’Toole decided it was finally time give me my Eisner Award for PUBLIC DOMAIN. She demanded I feed her first so we did the exchange at a not-popular Italian patio in Toronto (“When in Rome!” she kept exclaiming after every bite of her gnocchi).
After I watched and listened to her eat (“When in Rome!”) she handed me the award. With my keen artistic eye I immediately noticed it was quite broken.
Allison, of course, insists that she’s not the one who broke it. It’s hard to say definitively, I guess. I mean, does this look like the face of someone who deliberately wrecked someone’s award and knows that fact as she hands it over?
…Goddammit.
In other news, I’ve been catching up on comics and had the chance to read the upcoming SOMNA #1 by Becky Cloonan and Tula Lotay, published by DSTLRY.
I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this book. It is far too wicked and sexual for my chaste tastes. The main character engages in activities that are an affront to decency! Lurid, sexually charged scenes that had me gasping for air and moaning for forgiveness! And not only is there s-e-x there’s also a horror element that is a (non erotic) slap in the face to my God-fearing sensibilities!
If you, like me, do not care for sexy or spooky fare, then avoid this book! If you’re depraved and somehow enjoy fictional depictions of female desire (a myth) against a puritanical backdrop then I guess you can give them your money?! The “Final Order Cutoff” is this weekend so let your comical shoppe know you want it?!
I’M SORRY YOU HAD TO READ THIS
Three times!! To make sure I fully understood how depraved it actually is!
Another book I just read is THE ROMAN STARS by Iván Brandon and V. Gagnon. It’s a gorgeous re-imagining of the life of Julius Caesar against a galactic backdrop. Beautiful text from Iván matching beautiful visuals from V., this is one of those books you’re going to want a proper physical copy of. And, lucky you, you can make that dream come true since it’s on Kickstarter right now!
And that’s it for this week! I’m flying to NEW YORK CITY next week for NYCC, so it’s a time of Great Panic as I figure out if I can get all my work done before I board the plane! I’ll be posting my schedule here, don’t worry!
Mostly I’ll be signing at the Comic Sketch Art booth with Jorge and I’m looking forward to being photographed next to him again before I crumble into a mound of dust.
wow 2 hunks
