I’m fucking sick of the lamestream media dragging up the past:
In even sadder news, Marco has drawn his final page of Daredevil! He clearly has some sort of Stockholm syndrome thing from working with me because, after I gave yet another art note, he sent me this:
I honestly can’t imagine working with me! The fact that Marco’s done so for over four years truly astounds me. I know what his next non-Chip project is and, reader, you’re in for a goddamn treat. I already miss him!!
Speaking of Daredevil, I adapted my teaser image into a cover for our final issue!
So, yeah, if you want it, let your shop know! It’s an OPEN ORDER so you can get it without having to buy 25 other copies or whatever!
This week I had to dig into my archives for something and came across my speech for when I won the Special Award For Humor at the Harveys. The previous year I won in the same category for Sex Criminals, but Matt Fraction didn’t, which didn’t sit well with me so I publicly rejected the award like the petulant bad boy that I am.
I wasn’t at the awards ceremony the following year so I made Mark Waid accept on my behalf.
But then Mark STOLE THE AWARD
Thus began a multi-year adventure, where once in a while I’d get a photo of the award in a new location, passed from creator to creator. It travelled the world and, frankly, got up to no good. The last I heard it ended up as a prop on the set of an NBC pilot and was immediately forgotten about, so it is probably in a prop warehouse somewhere in New York, like the titular Lost Ark from that Indiana Jones movie #promotedpost #dialofdestiny.
Anyway, here it is in bed with Jason Aaron’s Eisner Awards. It lived a good life.
For anyone NOT sick of me, I did not one, but TWO interviews that you can listen to!
The first with Agents of Fandom:
And I checked in with Forbidden Planet about BATMAN: THE KNIGHT:
Yes, I’m looking rough and no, I’m not doing anything about it.
In (ugh) NON-Chip news, I got to read an advanced copy of THE DEVIL’S CUT, the anthology put out by new publisher DSTLRY! I have a load of friends in this and they’ve all really brought their A-game. It’s gorgeous and fun and gets my highly sought after Chip Pick! A real highlight is seeing li’l Jamie McKelvie writing and illustrating some beautiful sci-fi:
It’s EXCELLENT. FOC is Sunday 7/2 for Lunar, Monday 7/3 for Diamond, so let your shop know you want it! You NEED it!
And that’s it for me! I’ve got a work pileup so starting now my anthem for the next few days is Loverboy’s WORKING ON THE WEEKEND. That’s how that song goes, yeah?
Bye!
Chip
Thank God you're finally off Daredevil. I mean, I can't handle it anymore. Like Matt himself, I can't be this happy every month. It's bad for me. Good riddance. And take that Marco with you! I must perform some sort of comics penance now for enjoying Daredevil suffer as much as he does. Maybe I'll just hit myself with one of those door-stopper omnibuses.
Have a great weekend!
Truly it is the end of an era. It’s going to be so strange seeing someone else plotting out the adventures of Daredevil and them not be you.
Tbh for me, ur work has been what u might call, MY run on DD, the run that I will always think back on and think of as what the character should always aspire to be, in character and in quality. And I don’t say this lightly. I’m the sorta guy who, unless something catches his eye, he’s not likely to give it much focus. Such was my attitude for DD for years...
Till you and Marco that is.
Now I’m going to have to work on readjusting my expectations for the next team, and hope I feel the same intrigue and satisfaction from their work, as I have this run.
In regards to you and mark...who has the trophy now? I get it back or did he swipe it again?
Finally, any idea when you will be able to discuss more info about the upcoming Gotham War event, without the danger of being taken out by the editorial team’s snipers?
Always great seeing what you post on here Chip.
