Also, damn, this week’s Batman was...wow. And yes, the good old detective dialogue was very much a highlight of this issue. Fact, lots have been saying that’s partially what they loved most about it. Me, I’m a simpler fellow. I see Batman and joker together, thrown in a twisted alternate persona that has alienated Bruce from his family in his attempts to usurp his control over the body. I am curious as to know how Joker is even aware of the other Batman down in Bruce’s head? To me knowledge, those two have never met until now.
Also, was it ur idea or Jorge’s for the callback shot to the killing joke with Joker’s throne there? Just curious.
Just how long is mindbomb planned for? This going to be roughly the same length as Failsafe and Bat-Man of Gotham, or a shorter one?

I wanted to thank you and Matt for making Sex Criminals. I can't imagine the crazy things people said and or wrote to y'all. thankfully the comic shop I was shopping at during that time was owned by a family who was around my age and they couldn't keep sex criminals on the shelves because they would sell out quickly, thankfully I had it on my pull. on a side note my older brother has always believed Kurt Russell is related to us because in Used Cars, The Thing and I think Escape From New York our last name is used prominently in some of his lines and the name of his nemesis car dealers in Used Cars. which reminds me if Matt has any powers have him demand that I get a walk on on Monarch when the strike ends then perhaps I can ask Kurt myself.

I've been waiting for your Batman/Joker showdown since I read Howard The Duck. Gotham War was probably the most invested I've been in a Batman story in over half a decade and I can't wait to see what comes next. My girlfriend is exasperated from hearing me speculate.
I'd imagine! He's such a versatile character who can be used for so many different genres and stories. The fact that I buy that the guy who stole Bruce's money and brainwashed Dick is the same dude who once put his face on all the fish in Gotham is just delightful
Really really loved this recent issue of Batman. I really like (what I assume is) your ongoing theme of the importance of people and connection to Bruce being what makes him a hero. After being on his own for a while, he becomes more monstrous and scary to the people he means to save. This almost feels like an inverse of New Frontier's scene of Batman scaring a kid leading to his costume change.
I really like how comics can feel like improv, yes anding each other to create really cool stories greater than any other mediums. Was your inclusion of Vandal Savage yes adding his appearance in Ram's Detective run or the other way around?
I do have a couple more questions, assuming you can answer, but will this arc reference Johns and Fabok's Three Jokers, or is this overriding that? If yes, does Red Mask have anything to do with certain dead Jokers from that story returning?

Thanks! Vandal's inclusion in Detective and Gotham War came from an early Bat-meeting. I knew I wanted Vandal in the crossover and things lined up well with Ram's Orgham plans!
Our "three Jokers" thing is NOT overriding Johns/Fabok! Their book is its own thing, straddling the line of whether or not it's in "main DCU continuity." We're just picking up the bit from John's JL run where Batman discovers there's three Jokers when using Metron's chair (comics!!).
How do you feel about continuity? You've been using it to great effect to build on old ideas in your Marvel and DC work, but do you ever feel like it restricts you?
Sure! It was easy to bring Elektra into Daredevil and have them have strong feelings for each other because there are decades of stories setting that up. But there are SO many stories about them that fans can take issue with every aspect of them reuniting. Maybe because they're fans of any of his previous lovers, or maybe because previous stories show her already growing past being a killer, or cementing her fully AS a killer. Character progression is hard when they've been all over the map.
But a cleaner example of continuity messing with story is that Matt Murdock was the MAYOR. The idea that he can get a job as a parole officer or, frankly, anything, and people don't bring it up? That's one I had to be careful with because if i brought it up too much it would pull readers out of the story. You have to pick and choose what to focus on
It does seem like you pull a lot from previous runs. Was Mike Murdock and what you did with him something you would have done if he hadn't just been reintroduced?

Oh sure. It's a double-edged sword. Continuity helps build emotional connection in a story, but it can also really restrict you
