Haaaaaaaaaaaaah! Ohhhhhh Chip. Chip chip chipper, I needed that laugh this morning. So thanks for that. Sincerely.
In hindsight, I absolutely get why you would feel complete after wrapping up the Zur story (even if you never did reveal what happened to the other two damn jokers, but whatever) so I get the feeling of closure here. Though I confess I am pleased that things are wrapping up the vandal and court business before you leave, so thanks for remembering that on the way out the door.
I do hope though that this will not be the end of work for you at DC, Chip. Really hope you might find something in the line, or even in the new Absolute universe (I think you would do amazing work writing an Absolute Aquaman) so I look forward to seeing if we get more from you here. Or at Marvel.
This ride has been great, Chip, and I look forward to seeing how it all wraps up!
Listening to the Born Again episode of Mangasplaining right now, and I’m not sure if you have it and/or read the intro, but David Mazzucchelli’s entire foreword to the Batman: Year One Artist’s Edition is actually about the coloring process of that comic and to some degree Born Again. It even has the story of how Richmond Lewis ended up coloring the second issue (short answer: He lied to Marvel and said he’d do it himself and then got her to do it). I highly recommend reading that foreword if you haven’t! It’s great!
While I am bummed that your Batman run is ending much sooner than I initially anticipated, this does give me time to look back and appreciate all the hard work you, Jorge, and the rest of the team were able to accomplish. Good luck and Godspeed on whatever project you're working on next!
Well, like Spider-man, your Bboy run was ... well, eventually another omnibus on my shelf. Perhaps you should go to Marvel now and write... NAH-Mor. Thanks, Chip.
Chip, great to meet you (and Marco!!) on Saturday. We’ve got to get you back to Austin soon. Much like Toronto, we are also only hours from the border. So sounds like an easy trip. Let me know your ETA when convenient.
So, in the tongue-wagging-universe, if Dan Didio replaced Mark Waid five years ago, and Chips DD run launched five years ago, it seems like Chip’s run may have led to Mark’s demise.
Glad you made it back from nycc and a little sad you are finishing your run on Batman. Also a little refreshing to see the word maudlin....last time I heard it I was in a maudlin state listening to Morrissey sing about maudlin
Nahmore Bats in the belfry…darn, now I won’t be able to politely ignore Jorge Jimenez at NYCC anymore, Chip. Looking forward to what’s next.
Thanks for the fake DC expose of you leaving Batman or editorial beach blanket bingo.
YAY! I am delighted you finally met Marco - for hopefully more than five minutes - (He was so very sweet to me too.)
It was nice to see you again Chip. Happy to obtain another great King DD remarque and point you in the direction of Marco’s table (Hopefully my directions didn’t suck.) Can’t wait until you both work together again.
Love, love, love that your Daredevil run is starting to creep into the MCU too. Absolutely lost my Marvels marbles seeing Marco’s DD & Devil’s Reign art in the new MCU adjacent Marvel logo at the Marvel booth. Makes me even happier for you both.
Off to devour ZCN 3 and listen to this episode of not Mangasplaining.
Thanks for being a part of my great NYCC experience, and the awesome ZCN goodness Chip. Have a great week.
Hey Mr. Zdarsky I’m the guy who you met on the street and almost (accidentally) made you choke on your pizza. Thanks again for the great art advice and for sending happy chemicals to my brain :)
First and foremost, thanks for the Pesto Comics shoutout! (Ahem, pestocomics.com for the curious folks.) As a big fan of your work, it means a lot - even if it was just a thank you for putting an ad in your awesome newsletter.
I've loved your run on Batman. That Failsafe arc to kick it off was some of the most off-the-wall fun I've had with the comic in a long time. Had to go to Indigo to get the exclusive version.
But I hope the silver lining to all this is that you get more time to work on Public Domain and other indie work! You've got such a unique take on the world when you get to let loose and I'm eager to see more of it.
Oooh, I smell an Image sequel. They are now married with kids, the Sex Averse Criminals!

I still have to pick that bad boy up! Just got back to the city and my comic shop is holding it for me!
"you didn’t have Batman and Catwoman kiss enough." Possibly the worst of your many, many crimes.
which is really saying something considering my OTHER crimes!!!
Looking forward to whatever you do next.
(Along with what you’re already doing obviously. It’s not like Batman was all you’ve been working on).

Tbh my love for Batman is really only through my nephew’s eyes BUT I did truly love failsafe so thanks for making it easy ❤️
Well, I guess I was hoping it would go on forever but psyched to see what you open up next! (Also just caught up on Whisper Queens which was swell!)
Have you considered writing Daredevil?

That’s wild.

Was great seeing you again, Kim! And you led me straight to beautiful Marco!
good chob Chip! Getting to share a little bit of Gotham in our custody battle was such a highlight of my life, thank you for being a Bat friend.
"If Tini's gone, I'm out of here" is something I probably said!!!!

Ha! Was nice meeting you! Portfolio looked sharp!

I neglected to add, but Deborah has been awesome in getting everything setup!
yeah she's ok
