Another war in Gotham? Tell me, why do you suppose it is after City of bane, JOKER War, and Fear State, that people would willingly choose to remain here in Gotham City? Especially with ANOTHER war brewing on the horizon.

Which begs the question, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO SET BATMAN AND CATWOMAN AGAINST ONE ANOTHER IN AN EVENT BIG ENOUGH TO BE LABLED A WAR!!!!?????

I mean seriously, I know their relationship has been a bit on the, how do I put it, back burner, but back in Failsafe, aside from her and Valmont, she and Bruce seemed to be doing fine...so to speak. Where exactly should one who is looking for answers, look to for answers to how things escalate to the point where a war breaks out between Bats and Cats? Cause unless there’s someone orchestrating things behind the scenes, I am hard pressed to imagine a scenario where these two clash in a way they haven’t in probably 30-40 years now??

Also, any chance of a roster list on who will be on Team Cat and Team Bat?

Have fun destroying Gotham for the bazillionth time Chip. Be sure to save some for Joker, Joker, and Joker *waves bye bye*

Haha I love this

As always, everything will make sense when you read it! And nope, no rosters! I want you to experience it all as it happens!

Ok ok, fine fine fine, no rosters. But at least give me the Zdarsky two cents on how it is despite these calamities that befall Gotham, people still choose, willingly i might add, to remain there in Gotham and risk becoming collateral damage in the next big event (seriously, im dredging the body count for whenever your three Jokers come to town dude!)

I’m not writing Knight Terrors! Using this as an opportunity to get ahead on other bat-thjngs!

Ok cool, that works out nicely for you. Getting a two issue break to plot ahead. If I didn’t know any better I’d think this event was made to give some of you guys, those not working on this event, a nice little break to work on other things. Well if this means you get a jump start on Gotham War some more, then I am all for it chief.

So I know that the Bat family will be featuring in the upcoming issues and Gotham War obviously, but what bout all of Bruce’s super friends? You know, the ones Failsafe beat down hard with an entire street/block of the city made to take out said friends? Any chance they might be showing up to talk with Bruce about all that went down with the killer robot...among other thing?

They’re all VERY busy ha ha

Lucky for Bruce then, eh? Guess they will have to table that conversation for another time. Personally I think Wayne manor will end up rebuilt before Bruce gets around to having that particular conversation tbh

Look, after No Man's Land nothing makes sense. But ALSO, who's to say the residents don't WANT this war?...

Expand full comment

Now that’s just crazy talk there Chip. Only people living in San Fran these days are actively wanting destruction of their city. But gotham? I dunno man. Maybe if this was the Murphyverse and we had the Elites who wanted to buy up gotham in the Wake of the Batman fights sure, but the regular people?

But you make a great point in regards to No Man’s Land. If they choose to remain after that, that’s on them I suppose. I just wonder what it will take, what will be the straw that breaks the proverbial camels back before gotham goes from 7 million people living in it, to a regular American gothic ghost town.

Sidebar: Will you be writing the Knight Terrors tie-in issues for the Batman series?

Thanks for putting in overtime today to sign for everyone in Vancouver's super-long line! How does lots of driving + short intense signing events compare to your typical convention experience?

Expand full comment

Kathleen! Good to see you again!

I really like the store signings because it takes away the pressure of selling things and I get to help out the local shops! Conventions have the plus of getting to see and hang out with fellow creators but they usually try to ditch me pretty quick :(

Thanks for the comparison! People have to use the washroom or take a phone call occasionally, it doesn't *always* mean they're trying to ditch you (unless the "you" in this case is me, then yeah I'm getting ditched)

How’s driving been treating you?

oh my god it's amazing. I still genuinely love it

Enjoy driving whenever you can because once you stop enjoying it, you’ll REALLY stop enjoying it. I'm genuinely glad that you are enjoying the drive. When I drove from Windsor to Vancouver with my father, it was a fantastic time. I think you're making much greater time than we did.
