I mean, Bill motherfuckin "can draw better with ass cheeks than Zdarsky can with his hands" Sienkiewicz liked my previous comment expressing concern, so obviously I should try and keep up that sincere kindness.
Love CHIPCLASS. I’ve shown it to like a dozen people and one of ‘em was like, “hey, isn’t that guy gonna be Mr. Fantastic?”
In all seriousness, the artist part is brutal. I’ve got a second comic going with an artist and I feel a sense of guilt about it knowing how much work it is! I’m curious, does Marvel / DC offer similar page rates to artists vs. writers, considering the time investment?
Starting rates generally have artists making more than writers for obvious reasons. Usually twice as much, if not more? But that can change depending on popularity of the writers and artists. Like, if you've got a popular writer on a book (who is good at negotiating) then it's conceivable that they make more per page than the artist.
Ok, thank the gods. It’s easily twice the work, right?
I did some very rough math on my first issue (writing and art) and I’d say it was easily 80-85% of my time on art. Makes sense though that reputation and business acumen play a big role in the process. I organize some local art events in my town and artists struggle like hell on the business & promotion side of things! Which, makes sense, given how amazing they get at their craft..
On SEX CRIMINALS, I did all the art and lettering/design and made 60% versus Matt's 40%, which honestly made total sense to me. Almost everyone was picking that book up because they were Matt Fraction fans. Like any creative business it's all determined by perceived worth.
I've been enjoying your posts for a while Chip, so thanks! I've got a similar, albeit less refined sense of humor so you've been getting full on belly laughs from me each week. Keep up the great work! No pressure.
Daredevil is back baby! Though is it just me, or does his beard in that pic look more gray then it does red? Hasn’t been THAT long since the last issue has it? I mean married life takes its toll, but that soon? Damn Elektra must be the demanding woman.
Interesting title for ur second arc Chip, the Bat-Man of Gotham huh? I’m just waiting for Spider-Man to slip in and complain that ur taking away his hyphen here. Griping how Batman doesn’t use a hyphen, only Spider-Man does, haha.
That being said, any particular reason Jorge will only be doing covers for this arc? Nothing wrong with new blood, I just thought he was exclusively working on the Batman title for the foreseeable future is all.
Finally, I was wondering if after Failsafe (story and character both) ur next bit will feature any more classic rogues as the antagonists, or if we can cheerfully expect more new and awesome additions to the Batman rogue’s gallery?
Have a good one chip, and loved the last class btw. Need to do more whenever u can!
Jorge had a previous commitment to draw a NEMESIS miniseries for Mark Millar! But he'll be back!!! And I'm definitely going to be dipping into some classic rogues soon!
Oh glad to hear. With all the pros taking hiatuses these days, u never know what’s going on. Glad to hear it’s good news.
And I’m super excited to see what u have in store with the more classic Batman Rogues. And I know he’s probably still a long ways away, but I eagerly await learning more about your Three Jokers. Whether it was simply a nightmare, or a premonition of terrible things to come.
Jorge is a MACHINE! The Millar book was in the works long before I came on Batman, so I always knew it would derail us slightly, but Jorge's super committed to Batman so he'll definitely be back!
And if u don’t mind me asking, all the stuff surrounding joker, punchline, and the like at DC, is all that being coordinated between u and Tini and Matt with their series, as well as others like Catwoman and the like? Cause it seems like there’s a real big Joker thing being worked on across different titles.
Chipclass has been a godsend. I didn't know how to write a comic before and now I still don't, but that's never stopped anyone before. I am currently working on one that will showcase EVERYTHING I learned in Chipclass (no women, horse, perfect race, etc.). So I guess we'll see how good of a teacher you really are.

I mean, for the next post.
You are a mad hilarious genius. I wish there were a thousand episodes of ChipClass.
Love CHIPCLASS. I’ve shown it to like a dozen people and one of ‘em was like, “hey, isn’t that guy gonna be Mr. Fantastic?”

CHIPCLASS is THE BEST thing on YouTube and your news letter is THE BEST thing on substack! I’m sure the other stuff you do is great too 😉
These brighten my day

Yup, Matt Murdock plans as the DD writer laughs manically...Super excited for tomorrow's DD.
CHIPCLASS 3 was class. My family asked me was I laughing or crying while watching. I wiped tears away and replied "Both."
haha PERFECT

some things are more coordinated than others! We're always kept in the loop as to what other writers are doing.
Good answer. Informative without saying anything specific in case of spoilers 👍
I'd like to start a band called Beautiful Tinkle Boys with other readers of this substack. Whose in?
