Death By A Salesman
Now that I have a hit (four page) magazine, a lot of my time is devoted to dealing with printing, distribution, and now, advertising. I’m not much of a salesman, so that last part is a real learning experience for me. Amazingly, several comic publishers are set to advertise in future issues of ZCN, which is very exciting! As for the rest, I’m still working out my “sales strategy” when I get back a “no”…
Word on the street is that threats don’t work on clients? Well, we’ll see!!
I did a signing in Oakland! With David! For TIME WAITS! And it was a smash success!
Cape & Cowl is a fantastic shop. I highly recommend it. Also, David is much better at selling our book than I am. He doesn’t threaten anyone ONCE!
We both talk about the book, and working together, over at Newsarama! So go read it! We’re kind of smart!
Oh hey! I’m doing a signing TODAY in TORONTO! I’m scheduled with Mr. Jeff Lemire for 1pm at Treehouse Collectibles! So come on out! It looks like they’ve got a nice selection of books in case you already burned yours (because of the mean things I did to Batman, etc) or lent them out to friends (because actually I’m good at Batman, etc).
Oh, speaking of BATMAN, news slipped out this week about issue 154 being pushed back two weeks on the release schedule. Now, normally I don’t comment on such things (because I’m above it), but I just want everyone to know that this has nothing to do with any creative delays on our part. Issues 153 and 154 are DONE. Heck, 155 is being coloured right now! So, this is separate from anyone working on the book. It’s a publishing decision far beyond my pay grade!! I’m just a writer!!!! Leave me alone!!!

I have a shockingly light schedule, which is very nice after doing too many big comic conventions. There’s a Spotlight panel on Saturday and then a two-hour signing after and THAT’S IT. How luxurious!
Also, I’m speaking at Ohio State?? Like a goddamn professor??
I love that they used an old photo for the poster, so kids can show up and be like “oh fuck I should not try for a career in comics”
This week I finished PUBLIC DOMAIN #10, the end of my second arc.
It’s maybe my favourite thing I’ve ever made? The story clocks in at 31 pages, because I’m a dummy, but I think it’s worth it. I know I’ve been slow to upload issue nine for subscribers, so that’ll be next week, I promise!
I mostly bring Public Domain up ‘cause Boing Boing just did a nice writeup about it!
Finally, I did an interview with Youtuber Shine! He’s a huge comics fan and his videos are super fun. Sadly, the last twenty minutes of our talk failed to record, where I went off on all my enemies, but what remains is still fun! Check it out!

Hey Chip, I was wondering if you could possibly help me with a problem. The Digital versions of your Batman Joker Year One novel have been, along with like 5 other books (Green Arrow vol 2, Nightwing Vol 5, Action Comics Vol 5, and World’s Finest vol 4) have been completely removed from all digital stores everywhere (Amazon kindle for example) seemingly the day before they were set to release.
I have tried everything and reached out to everyone I can think about, but those who answer are an unable to figure out anything, or those like u I reached out to I never heard back from. But u have a great track record of helping and responding so I figured I’d try my luck, see if you could reach out to Publishing and find out what happened to your book and all the others.
Hope everything is going good on ur side of the screen, cause this thing here, is driving me to drink and pull my damn hair out in frustration 😆
