The sketch is nice and all but when I asked Zeb for a present he went and kidnapped Tom Cruise and put the wig on him and everything. He is just SO generous.

Would you make an explainer video about how we got to James Gunn’s DCU???? Nix that I actually have a way more urgent request CHiP (“Steve”)

I couldn’t help but notice your so called best chum hasn’t made too many comics lately (maybe too busy helping show run excellent tv????) and I fear if you keep entertaining this silly notion of making incredibly watchable video shorts that you’ll get the bright idea to ABANDON making great comics to make great tv which I’m NOT here for. So my request is don’t produce any videos besides masterchip masterclasses which the world could always use more of....

love ❤️ and peace ✌️,

Zdarsky’s Zdarling’s + co (me and whoever co-signs this by liking, legally binding no take-backsies)

CHIP + COMICS 4EVER!!!!!

But yeah, running a Godzilla TV show is a lot of work, apparently?? Having visited the set during production I can very much say that is not the life for me!!!!

Hi Chip,

Love those doodles. So if your Spidey omnibus is a brick, does that mean the Spidey omnibus is the real brick Matt Murdock caught in Spider-Man No Way Home?

Can you do one of those Caught up in 3 minutes for Batman please? The Iron Man one was terrific and better than the Avengers movie imo.

Looking forward to Public Domain 8.

Have a nice week, Chip. Thanks as always for your substack.

That catch up for Iron Man 3 was AMAZING!!!

Recently I had been thinking about re-watching Iron Man 2 because I couldn’t remember anything that happened in it, but now I don’t have to. Woo hoo!

Could you do something like that for the current MCU?

If I had the time I would!

Excellent. I can give the Spider-Man omnibus to my loved ones who are afraid of spiders, and men. Maybe they'll read the book, and overcome their fears by realizing that Spider-Man is a pretty nice guy.

Oh yeah, that omnibus is going on a letter to Santa

I want those elves of his to draw the pages BY HAND

Also you should absolutely do one of those recap video but for like, Newburn

This was a great second part of this current Batman arc, though I confess, the more I see the lengths that Bruce has gone to train himself (both in body and in mind) and a thought struck me as I was reading this. Do you think it is possible that because of the ridiculous lengths that Bruce has gone to transform himself into as close to being Super Human as can be without gaining super powers, that he almost conjures these escalations in his fights with his enemies? almost as if the universe were tying to balance out a single man becoming this much a seeming force of nature, by striking back with even greater dangers?

And then when he goes against them he’s forced to up his game even further to almost ridiculous levels to overcome those threats, which in turn grow stronger in response to his measures taken, and on and on it goes.

It is a never ending cycle man. He’s trapped!

Though in part I also think that the ridiculous levels of his abilities he’s capable of doing nowadays is in great part to the more recent writers, and the situations they put him in (Thank you for that Chip), so the total blame cannot be dropped at his feet, I’ll admit. But that being said, when I see how things seem to be going, the curvature of his progression that he’s forced to do more and more ridiculous, ludicrous things against newer and deadlier enemies, it makes me almost wish that Batman were, heaven forgive me for what I am about to say, buffed down a little so he’s not so much this crazy, impossible to conceive possible vigilante, who, from an objective pov, looking in, seems like a complete lunatic in how he is going about all of this.

Also, did Savage make a new friend? Cause something tells me that this particular fellow that Vandal has become acquainted with is more than likely representing another winged consortium of Gotham’s masked community. Albeit one having nothing to do with bats of course. Hopefully they might get an arc here in the run, if the Zur storyline is not intended for your entire tenure of course.

Also...the JJJ one is my favorite of the above selection, lmao! Very nicely done.

Well, keep it up Chip, looking forward to next month’s Batman, Avengers Twilight, and of course, Joker year one, coming to comic book stores near you.

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it!

Oh I’m enjoying this oodles chip. As demonstrated in my extremely long message above, lol.

Sorry if it was too lengthy. Brevity is not my forte when trying to express a thought that I’m having sometimes.

Ha! No worries!

But in all seriousness, u have to admit the feats that Batman seem to be doing nowadays seem to be reaching almost insane levels, if his recent escapade in space during Failsafe is any indication.

Not that I am saying it’s a bad thing, just an observation

I mean, besides the moon fall (which I think still falls well within his "Batman-ness" ha ha), I don't really see it? I mean, I followed that arc up with him really struggling in the other Gotham. He's been beat up by normal guys at points. If anything, I feel like I've made him weaker!

Expand full comment

Oh I may have used the moon bit as an example but I was referring to more than just what u have done. Tom, James, Josh, Scott, just a few other names for writers who have been upping the ante when it comes to their time with bats.

For someone like me from the early nineties, while Batman was doing crazy stuff, I think it’s definitely escalated since Nu52 and onwards, in my humble opinion.

And while u may have made Bruce weaker perhaps, you DEFINITELY beefed up Zur from being just a back up in Batman’s head, 🤣

dear chip,

thanks for sharing all of this, as always!

the art is beautiful. the jokes are funny. the idea of ordering more food after someone else says they're paying is highly relatable.

one question: do you think BATMAN #140 will still be worth reading even though we now know that batman says "let's go" at some point during it?

thank you!

love
