not sure how i'm supposed to go on though without any more of marco's equally sexy & depressing daredevil art to look forward to ... tough times

Well, lucky for you he's still drawing! I know his next project and it is VERY COOL

I remember being so excited when Marvel announced that you were taking over *my* superhero. I love Matt. And I knew it was going to be an amazing run when I saw the Know Fear arc logo you designed (and I'm still getting that as a tattoo.)

But for me, the #1 moment of this entire run was when Matt, as a PAROLE OFFICER, told his client "we both know the system is broken, let's see if we can get you out of it." It felt like you were writing that scene for me (a probation officer.) I called and texted the old All Comics considered crew and was like LOOK WHAT CHIP AND CREW DID. It just landed so squarely for me.

Thank you for making my superhero say things that I've said to my own probation clients.

Oh WOW! Thanks so much for this, Marty. Yeah I know the "parole officer" part was short-lived, but I knew it was a moment to have some character impact for sure

Congrats on an incredible run, Chip. You done the devil proud.

For anyone looking for more of Marco - even more Marco Daredevil! - I strongly recommend checking out Greg Rucka’s 14 issue on The Punisher, on which Marco is the main artist. Amazing stuff.

Hmm, usually I come here and make a dig at Chip…oh I know! “If you like Marco’s work on Daredevil, wait tilll you see what he can do with a real writer!”

Nailed it.

(And congrats!)

I finally picked up my copy of Daredevil #14. Man. What a story. Altogether, this run of yours is in high contention for my personal favorite comic book run of all time.

I am quite sad it’s over, but I feel privileged to have witnessed it in real time. Thank you for your brilliant work, and for giving Marco some kickass material to show off with.

I look forward to what Saladin and Aaron are doing with the characters, but I also want to let this ending stew a little ya know? That being said, I’ll be first in line to read their new #1.

Daredevil is dead. Long live Daredevil.

I will miss how much you and Marco fucked up Matt, Chip. As you saw on IG, loved this finale and adore your DD run. It’s my favorite DD. 👏😈🙏Thanks to you, Marco, and the many amazing artists who helped drag Matt To Heaven Through Hell. I look forward to when I can thank you in person for happily corrupting my fan woman heart & making me see the light with your daredevilish soapy goodness and badness. Thank you again, Chip. This is a fantastic story I just love rereading. Excited for where Saladin, Aaron & Germain will take Matt. Will continue to read your fine messes and probably ask about DD too. 🙏😈🫣

What can I say about your run that hasn't been said already? Thank you, not only have you given us guys on the comic side one of the best Daredevil run's ever, but you also brought in a lot of new readers from the show [seriously, my mom and dad and like 5 of my friends have been reading your run, none of them had ever read a comic book before and they are going to continue reading!!], Marco provided us with some absolutely breathtaking art that in my opinion perfectly embodies the character, and you provided us with one of the most interesting Matthew Murdocks.

This final issue as well, holy, When I saw the promotional for the new run released by Aaron, I had a rough idea of where you were most likely going to leave Matthew Murdock and make the next writers life hell [I mean c'mon, if you're a Daredevil writer you have to], but wow was this last issue phenomenal, it felt good to have an issue like that, barely any Matt Murdock, but you can still feel the effects of him throughout Hell's Kitchen, Thats what a hero is, and the last page, it reminded me a lot of the last page of Charle's Soule's Run, Thank you Chip, Thank you to everyone who worked on the book. So glad that your still on Batman so I can still read a street level character by you.

Aw, thanks so much, Eli. And that's nice to hear about the new readers!

congrats on an absolutely epic DD run! can't wait to pick up the final issue today !!

It's wild to see your run on DD come to an end to me, as long as I've been monitoring the comics industry like the nerdiest NSA spook whose ever lived, I've been hearing that I need to start Daredevil.

I managed to catch up before the finale today- and as soon as the comic store opens it will be mine.

I also appreciate that it ends a week before Immortal Thor launches, I only have room for one Marvel hyperfixation.

Expand full comment

Ha! I'm also looking forward to IMMORTAL THOR. I've been out from Marvel for so long now that I don't even know what's going to happen!

Expand full comment

It must be cool to not know what's gonna happen! IMMORTAL THOR looks amazing, and I'm not a Thor guy at all, haha! Ewing comics have always been great, but you know the man is cooking when he compares his work to the Bible.

Wow. End of an era dude. U did good Chip. You did good.

And boy did I have fun reading the trade for Bat-Man of Gotham dude! I honestly wasn’t expecting to include the family dinner issue in the collection. Not that I’m complaining. But a curious thought hit me as I was rereading issue 900 of the trade.

Wondered if the affects of Red Mask jumping through the multiverse and affecting the jokers there ended when he lost to Batman, or, if like the Zurs that now fill the multiverse, these new and affected Jokers are still out there causing problems on their worlds.

Cause if that’s the case, I’ve been thinking too small. It’s not just THREE jokers. It’s a bleeding MULTIVERSE of them heading out way.

Least that’s my big theory anyways.

Also not gonna lie, kinda wished Oswald could have managed to bow out like he wanted to, but I suppose when u have been in this game as long as he has there really is no out. No matter how badly he wanted it.

But now I’m wondering if when it becomes public knowledge that penguin still lives, if it’ll cause a critical erro in Failsafe, fue to it having carried out its program under false assumptions? That’d be interesting to see play out.

And I’m excited about Gotham War, and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Once again Chip, congrats on a historic DD run.

Expand full comment

Oswald can't be out when there's an HBO Max series on the way!!!

Expand full comment

Yeah, I know that, but still! Doesn’t some people deserve a little peace in their lives? Even those of the criminal variety?

Also, and I was wondering if I could get ur take, but reading the new book, I’m reminded how Joker isn’t just represented as a super criminal, but a true force of evil that is not so easily nailed down as being crazy, or contained in one single world. That is how u see him I’m assuming right?

Some writers focus on him as being just a bad guy, and often belittle him due to his past actions with Harley or his affinity for Batman. But what I saw here...you portray him beautifully as this flesh and blood embodiment of evil.

Expand full comment

I think there's room for all interpretations of Joker! I like to write him as if he's on another level, for sure. Maybe not the pure embodiment of evil, but definitely a wildly smart agent of chaos

Expand full comment

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. No knock on any writer who doesn’t write him similarly of course, I was just wanting to see if that was indeed what u were aiming for with him

Expand full comment

I may have written that a little too complicated or illegible. What I meant to ask is do you see Joker as something more than another super villain? Some more dangerous than the average costumed baddy trying to make a name for themselves fighting Batman?

Expand full comment

I'm only now reading the second volume of the DD run (issues 6-10) but the scene where Reed Richards explains what he believes God would do if they exist is the best writing of any type I've seen in a while.
