Like all red-blooded American (Canadian) males, I watched the new Roadhouse remake this weekend. Not bad:
(Side note: Conor McGregor absolutely has Popeye vibes)
This is a big week for me, Chip Zdarsky! It may be a big week for you as well, but I don’t read your newsletter so how would I even know? I’ve gone on and on about it here, but finally SEX CRIMINALS: THE COMPLETE EDITION is out!
Fun fact: Before Matt added the wonderful quote by his father on the front…
…this was my placeholder quote:
Oh well! Maybe next time!
Anyway, the stores who ordered more than five copies will ALSO have these bookplates signed by me and Mr. Godzilla, Matt Fraction!
There was a nice SEX CRIMINALS write-up over at Comic Watch, but be warned: there are spoilers.
It’s very exciting for me. You should check the book out! If you hate my writing you’re in luck ‘cause I didn’t write it! If you hate my art then fuck you! Do you also hate joy??
YEAH
Oh yeah, I forgot. Well, maybe you want something darker! If that’s the case, there’s another big release this week!
The final issue of NEWBURN! It’s truly been an honour to work with Jacob on this series. Sixteen issues of (mostly) done-in-one detective stories culminating in this cool epilogue, where we get to see the final fates of all of our characters.
It really has been a joy working on this. It scratched a totally different part of my brain when I’d write each issue, and seeing how intensely talented Jacob is first-hand was truly amazing.
Also! I’ve been incredibly lucky to have so much talent on our backup stories! Everyone involved rose to the challenge and it really made the book stronger as a result.
We did it! Woo!
For Chip Zdarsky Completionists out there, Mr. Ed Brisson is finished his epic road trip tour and has a few copies left of this TOUR EXCLUSIVE cover for his cool new series THE DISPLACED!
Another cool thing that I’m NOT involved with is for readers of the hit indie series “Batman.”
The Folio Society (sounds classy) just put out a really lovely collection of Batman comics. It’s a bat-buffet sampler of some of his best stories, PLUS it has a replica of Batman issue one, which I keep trying to re-sell as an actual number one, but no one has bit so far.
Oh shit! I also just realized today is the day that BATMAN #141, #142 and #143 are back in stores for their second and third printings! If you missed out on JOKER: YEAR ONE, now’s your chance!
And last, but definitely least, occasional substack commenter “Actual Dracula” has somehow roped me into talking with him this Friday, live, on youtube. This is a classic “Chip Bad Decision,” but what am I going to do?
Enh, it’ll be okay. Who would mess with a guy who looks like THAT?
Okay! Bye!

Congratulations on the Newburn run. I admittedly started following your work for the laughs, but Newburn (and Stillwater, and others!) is a great, very strong book with an excellent core idea. I hope you do more noir/crime stories. You've got a good mind for it.
Hahaha funny note..... But where DO babies come from and why DO they rob banks? 🤔
(Maybe this is sorta answered by Newburb finale, which was fantastic and beautiful. Some of both you and your collaborator's best. Thank you for sharing it with us.)
