Planting Onions

James Tynion IV is taking over the world. He’s got a team at Tiny Onion now, producing comics, movies, fine wines, athleisurewear and self-help books (“How To Win An Eisner Or Two Or Five”). A lot of us in the comic book business look at him and go, “How can I do the same thing?!” and then we go back to playing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Now, as you all know, I’m a cutthroat empire builder. But my empires tend to be wild money losers, like my line of branded kissing booths that debuted in February of 2020. I look at James though, and find myself inspired. So, I had a great meeting this weekend with my frequent collaborator, Kagan McLeod, and some top-notch creative minds, to cook something special up for later in the year. Here, you can see a candid shot of Kagan and I in deep discussion:

Now, a lot of people I’ve shown this photo to have not been asking me what our secret plans are. They instead keep asking me what’s wrong with my body.

But actually everything is right with my body:

Anyway, we’re getting distracted. Big things are coming up so look out, Tiny Onion, there’s a Big Onion in town (my new nickname).

In actual comic news, BATMAN #149 came out this week! It’s an extra-sized epilogue to the big Failsafe / Zur storyline!

It’s a special one, at least for me! A lot of bits that I set up from the beginning get paid off here. Michele Bandini and Steve Lieber did great work on a challenging issue.

And just because this is an epilogue doesn’t mean we’re done! Next issue is #150, which is a really nice done-in-one featuring Jorge back on art along with the legendary Denys Cowan! PLUS, the beginning of our big ABSOLUTE POWER tie-in story, featuring Mike Hawthorne back on art! It’s gonna be a good one!

It’s illegal for me to show you anything from it, so don’t tell anyone I did this, okay? Shhhh!!!
