To this day, Sex Criminals is the only comic where I own every issue in floppy, including the NSFW covers (of which the Bryan O'Malley one is probably my favourite!), digitally, and the hardback omnibus collections.
And I regret nothing. It's a fantastic book. Happy Anniversary!
I’m still partial to Erica’s Asskira cover, and remember shyly pulling it out for her to sign at an otherwise wholesome Squirrel Girl signing at Midtown Comics
Holy shit. This summer I reorganized all my floppies and still have the NSFW covers in their plastic! Because kids! But it’s not like any issue is safe because kids! My son was 1 when issue 1 dropped and I remember thinking “I’m never going to have that life again ... or stop time when I pop.” Both things worked out OK for me 10 years later and glad things worked out for you too!
I read your Daredevil #1 in 2019 right after the show ended and loved it, so I needed more of your work. I found vol 1 of Sex Criminals at my local store and saw Matt's name on it too and figured it must be good. I had no idea what to expect, but it has definitely become a top 3 book for me.
Thank you both for making a series that helped me survive Covid, helped me understand my relationships more and just made me laugh. The 4th wall breaks in this series are amazing and the one where you let the Howard the Duck fame go to your head is *chef's kiss*.
Here is hoping that issues 31-68 happen when you both are old and bored. Jk... unless 👀
Back at the time, I picked up the first trade because I liked Matt's Marvel work and had heard the buzz about the book, but I wasn't sure it was going to be "for me," so to speak. But it turned out this goofy sex joke book quickly became probably the most open, honest, accepting, and somehow respectful representation/discussion of learning to love yourself and others and mental health that I'd ever read. Something I never would've imagined when I first picked it up, as well as something impossible to explain when my mom saw me reading an issue later down the line. I've been a reader of (I think) all your work since. A personal highlight was meeting you and Matt at CXC, where my copy of Vol. 4 happened to be the first physical copy you'd seen (and signed, of course). I got other stuff signed too, but that especially was pretty cool.
I only have two and a half regrets involving the series: First is that I waited for that first trade, so I don't have any of the single issues before I think #6 (wherever vol. 1 left off). I'd love to see those early letters pages. The second is that I was never able to make it to any of the Brimper meet-ups, because that had to have been a blast. Lastly, that half regret is that I didn't try to write in to you guys until the very end, the very last minute - and what I wrote was probably unhinged as I was writing in a feverish panic (why did I wait until the final issue was upon us?!), late at night in a weird semi-fugue state. And even under normal circumstances I (CLEARLY) tend to be longwinded. So I apologize for that one...
Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is "thanks and congrats!"
P.S. I also got the O'Malley variant - on accident and without warning, which is another story altogether, but ultimately a pretty mundane one.
P.P.S. I will obviously celebrate the anniversary, but I will do everything I can to not think about the relentless, uncaring march of time, because goddamn.
I know we've talked a bunch in person, but I don't think I've ever mentioned that I really started reading comics (...really just DC) in 2012, and Sex Criminals was the first comic that made me fall in love with Image, and more important, the craft of what goes into storytelling in comics (visually and emotionally).
Sex Criminals was the book I anticipated most in my pull list with every issue. I'd go through all the little easter eggs you'd leave in the panels, and every time I'd get to the end, I always loved reading the letters/emails that were sent in. Back in late 2018, when Matt raised money for Worldbuilders by donating a signed draft script of Issue 1: Suzie Down In The Quiet, I knew I had to bid on that auction. It's a very special piece of cultural history I'll always treasure.
It's an honour to have been witness to your decade of growth and opportunity. Always glad to support ya!
Congrats on 10 years! Can’t believe it’s been that long since Sex Crims #1. My then-girlfriend-now-wife and I still have the photo you and Matt took with us at HeroesCon back in 2014 proudly displayed on our wall. The amount of nerd cred we have being able to tell folks you guys helped get us engaged at the Sex Crims panel cannot be underestimated. Thank you for an incredible comic and being a huge part of our lives all these years.
Ten years as a writer? So you started after the three dimes in prison? Congratulations on your rehabilitation, Chip. (Matt is not "some sort" of vampire buty just a regular vampire.) Thanks for the pdf. I have the hardcovers and the Comixology digitals.

Oh yeah, that's amazing too (probably my sevond-favourite, but there's just something about a phallic Goomba that connects with me on a deeper level!
Tbf, they were all great!
TEN YEARS?!
Oh, no. It's too early in the morning to contemplate how quickly time slips away.
Does that mean we can start calling Sex Criminals "classic"?
oh no

Sexcrims meant the world to me ❤️
Maybe even MEANS the world to me ;)
WHOA
the only comic I’ve written to and got published in (in the greatest comics letters column to ever exist at that). A truly great, sexy, sexy honor.
Long Live Sex Criminals, Vampire Fraction, and Slowly Decomposing Mound Of Flesh In a Garfield Costume Zdarsky!

Sex Criminals is still one of my top five all-time favorite comics, and the brimp-ups at HeroesCon are some of my favorite con memories.
