I don’t know what it is about the absolute shitshow of twitter this past week, but I’m drawn to it like a moth to a flame. It’s probably a bad thing and I should talk to my therapist about it!!!
In Not Twitter news, I had a really great chat with David Harper over at SK(e)TCH(e)D about, well, everything?? We dive into PUBLIC DOMAIN now that the first arc is over, but we also get into lesser titles like “Batman” and “Daredevil.” Go listen!!!
Speaking of Public Domain, here’s the status of issues six and seven:
Trying to draw a page a day, which is actually a nice break from all the writing! You can get in the flow more with drawing, I find. Hurts the brain less. And my god I need to hurt my brain less.
And it’s going well! MILD PUBLIC DOMAIN SPOILERS BELOW:
A lot of that has to do with the fact that I did some prep work for this arc. I knew we’d be setting a lot of it in our new comic studio location, so I used my verrrry basic skills to build a 3D model of it in SketchUp.
Like I said, verrrry basic. But it’s enough of a starting point that I can keep things consistent throughout the story.
I almost always regret it when I think I can just “wing it” or that I’ll “deal with it later.” Getting all my reference sorted before I start drawing is incredibly important toward getting these books out on a schedule! Same goes for writing! When I have several arcs broken out into issues, with the major beats worked out, writing the individual issues is a breeze.
I think I’m mostly just writing this out to remind myself of this fact so I keep doing it?? Thanks for the help, reader!!!
YOUR WELCOME
Wait, you’re a reader?
I GO OVER IT FOR MISTAKES BEFORE YOU SEND IT
Ah, makes sense.
All the above may make it seem like I have it, you know, together, but I really do not. My wife looked at me yesterday in my stained hoodie and disheveled hair/beard and just muttered “jesus christ” and then walked out the door. I think she’ll be back? If not, well, I guess I just have more time to work!!
Someone who DOES have it together, is Batman artist extraordinaire Jorge Jimenez! Please enjoy this video where he talks about his journey to the top of comics. I just learned he was studying Physical Education while breaking into the industry. We have so much in common!!
Last, but definitely not least this week, is the amazing fan comic, Pivot To Web, made by Friend Of The Stack Merritt K, Eric Thurm and Ike Whitehead.
It’s a funny, smart comic about some guy named The Spider and a newspaper publisher who hates him and I absolutely love it. Go check it out! It’s FREE!
GOD YOU’RE SO CHEAP PLEASE GO BUY A NEW HOODIE
this one is perfectly fine still
Wow. Adding vowels to my website's name. I'm going to talk to my lawyer.
Still haven’t received my signed comic. I paid for it. Sent an email to someone at comic sketch art with no response. I don’t Kobe what to do other than just wait. I’m a little nervous, though...
