The fact that Captain America is played in that made-for-tv movie by J.D. Salinger's son is one of my favorite pieces of trivia.

When I was a kid I (well, my mom helped) made my own Captain America shield by taping a cardboard star to a Frisbee and an “A” and wings to one of my grandfather’s hard hats. I’d put my bike in my wagon (my Battle Wagon) and drag it around my neighborhood. When I spotted something I parked my wagon, retrieved my helmet and shield and raced around on my bike looking for bad guys. Man, that was one lonely summer!

I immediately went on the pre-owned marketplace to see how much a captain america shield is. I must experience the satisfying "plop" of paintballs being deflected by a movie accurate prop held up by my thin tender chicken arms.

I've just booked a flight to fly to the maple land to visit my Canadian family, I'll be in the Toronto area for August, have you ever been to the fan expo convention? I thought about picking up a day ticket just to experience a big con, no such thing exists over here in Sunny Scotland. Any other comic related suggestions in the Big T (I don't think anyone calls Toronto the Big T)

Cheers

I used to table at Fan Expo, but I haven't in well over ten years for a variety of reasons. Honestly it's worth checking out for a day! Big shows are a total experience.

But if you're in THE BIG T, you have to check out The Beguiling, which is Canada's greatest comic shop. Just a wild variety of work there.

For a second there I thought you were gonna say you roasted hot dogs on your shield. I have to deduct half a point, but otherwise great story! Just like Joker Year One. (Actually seriously, really good stuff that. On par with The Knight. Can’t wait to read the latest!)

Okay, that photo of your shield in the woods is suitably Chipepic. That’s awesome you used the shield specifically for paintball wars.

Looking forward to Avengers Twilight 3 &. -yay!- congratulations on another recommendation for Public Domain. Adults, though? I guess we can pass for them.

I admire your non-materialistic stance Chip. Really.

And yet…someone else is NOT happy about the landfill quip. He grumbled something about “My co-creator hates me…he won’t even let me be slightly less angry in his studio!” then grabbed my phone, took this photo, and forced me to post this at naginata-point:

((Sorry, Chip…really…if I knew he was still THAT cranky I wouldn’t have woken him up from his fever nap.)) 🤗😍🤗

Have a wonderful week Chip. Here’s to Valentines (Or not), Joe Kerr mirth and shields and chocolate (If you like chocolate.)

Oh and to make room for him when he flees to Canada. Please? 😉

that reprinting of the first issue is terrible news, mainly because that cover is awesome and I cannot be buying more funny picture books

jokes aside, you've been putting out some great fucking comics for a while now, glad to hear that your current books are moving so many copies ^^

I am consistently impressed with How you have handled Avengers Twilight. Admittedly, I have never been too much a fan of future elseworld stories or events, but this one has a special charm to it that I can’t shake off for whatever reason…or maybe it’s just that you have Cap as the main character ad I never pass on a great Cap book.

Honestly, before this book, and this post, I never would have figured you for a Captain America fan. Am I overjoyed at us sharing the same favorite character? Absolutely! And now I cannot help that you will get to write even more Captain America in the future, be it a solo or a team ensemble of some sort. Because more than anything I would love to see that twisted little mind of yours put Captain america through the wringer, just like you are Batman.

Also, I have to admit, I am both terrified and amazed with how this year one joker bit is turning out. First and foremost, the future parts, though I believe the pandemic joker virus plot was already done by Scott (though not nearly as terrifying with nearly as terrifying art…don’t tell Greg that), has been such a gripping part of these last couple issues. As is how they play into the narrative tying to his origins.

Speaking of which, the process of watching Joker, studying with Bruce’s old teacher, and watch him create the three distinct personas of the Joker, that we as readers and writers are most familiar and associate him with, was something to behold. Watching him create what could be implied to to be multiple Zur personas in him, to Bruce’s one, and the potential prospects that it entails, has me breaking out in goosebumps as to what this means for later down the line.

I personally like the idea that Joker, in creating his own Zurs, made too many, and ended up running out of space for them all, and hence why he is so chaotic in nature as they are each grappling for control.

and we still have one more issue, I think, for this year one arc, and given how things have been going, I am eagerly awaiting for how you present his first outing as the clown Prince of Crime!

Great job Chip, great job with everything you are doing here man.

Expand full comment

Thanks, man! And yeah, we mention in the next issue that Joker has done a similar thing before with the "joker virus" and what makes this time different. And the three personas reveal was kind of my way of explaining why the Joker acts differently under the different writers!

Expand full comment

Also creates a tool for future writers to introduce new forms of the character not seen before, if that ever tickled anyone’s fancy. Potentially. I am assuming that Joker’s training, potentially his mastering of the training that gave birth to Zur for Bruce, is how Joker is aware of, and can see that bright colored psycho lurking in the reaches of Batman’s mind

this is an/a kinda older post so what i'm saying may not make sense. but im more scared of avengers twilight cuz it does feels more real than any scary shit i have read recently

Christ, this new Batman issue might just have the greatest tastefully nude drawing of The Joker I have ever seen. This story has been really fun so far!

Huge congratulations on Public Domain making its way onto that American Library Association’s list! I’m no library, but I say it deserves its spot!

Also that photo of you with your shield in the forest playing paintball has no right to go as hard as it does, and it should totally be a reference picture for a Captain America variant cover or something
