The VANISH Debacle

How do I do so much? It’s easy!

True story: Shockingly, I’ve never done cocaine. My friends wouldn’t let me because they said it would “be too cartoonishly predictable” with my large, pointy nose. But I did go to a house party once where there was a mountain of cocaine on the kitchen table and I rubbed some on my gums like cops do in movies so I could say, “Yup. It’s pure.” And then I arrested everyone at the party.

Anyway, those are my comics out today, but I wanted to talk about another comic out today: VANISH #1 by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman.

As you all know, I have no love for Ryan. He’s incredibly mean and constantly hurling insults despite all of his wild, very obvious, flaws. I try to be nice to him because I know any slightly negative comment could send him spiraling, causing him to leave his family again. We could debate all day long whether or not that would be a net positive for “The Stegmans,” but that’s not the point here. I don’t actively want him to fail. So I was really saddened when I saw what happened.

Vanish #1 printed incredibly small. Absolutely unreadable.

If I had to wager a guess, Ryan mixed up inches and centimeters again. Fuck.

So, if you go into a comic shop today, this is what you’ll see:

Now, I’m hearing some reports that a few rare regular-sized copies of VANISH #1 made it through. If you see one of them, get it, because it’ll probably be a valuable collector’s item. I got to read it digitally before this debacle so I can tell you it’s a really fun book with wild twists and bombastic art. Fingers crossed you get a readable copy.
