Also on a serious note, Newburn really is incredible I recently reread it after watching Justified again to get ready for primeval and it made me realize how much it feels like an Elmore Leonard novel... Is that at all intentional?
How do we know you’re real if you never have United States tours?! What about us NON-Canucks? I’m starting to feel like a real Ca-knucklehead showing u- at every comic con in Idaho trying to have my Kaptara/Newburn crossover signed off on as Authorized and never finding you!!!
Will, I can tell you; I'm a real person who really lives in Canada, and I met Chip in the flesh during his totally not fake Canadian roadtrip. It was an awesome time and I wish we could have took him home with us.
I think the funniest outcome would be if, should she have the opportunity to, Allison reads all twenty of said acceptance speeches off of cue cards, shuffled into a random order regardless of what the award is for.
Very very VERY excited for what you and tini and Jorge and everyone else have in store for us when Gotham War drops.
Also, completely unrelated, but I’m curious. Were you jealous that James Tynion got to do a Batman being Daredevil moment back during his Joker War arc before u could?
I have a question I meant to ask back in May when you were in Saskatoon, but nerves and my mission of getting my books signed and Street Saviours in your hands got in the way.
What would you consider your "magnum opus"? Not necessarily your best work, but the one most important to you that shaped or changed how you approach creativity.
Oh wow! Uh, that's a tough one. I mean, Sex Criminals is probably the one. Besides it being life-changing, it felt like a perfect marriage between myself and Matt, like exactly what a collaborative comic should be. I've been fucking it all up ever since ha ha
Sex Criminals is a great answer, I think it's one of the most unique, funny, and smart comics I've ever read. I couldn't imagine it without your art. it really does feel like "the best of Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky" in that the book is radiating with just pure passion for the story you are telling.
The collaboration between you two is a lot like the Kirkman/Ottley stuff in Invincible, the way the script and the inks feed off each other in a beautifully symbiotic way.
I know it's a bit of a big question with an even bigger response, but thank you for answering! It's always cool to hear a creative talk about that sort of thing.
I am cheering for you, Marco, & Rafael like nobody’s business, Chip. I am not at SDCC either (Like you, this is the year I would have enjoyed attending SDCC because comics!) May Allison take up most of the Eisners’ acceptance speech time celebrating your wins and may she also have fun. Until Saturday, have a nice week Chip.
😂 Perfect. I’m sure at least one of those speeches praises Marco, Rafael, & Allison herself, while other speeches roast your enemies into golden brown deliciousness.

Wow! High praise! Not intentional, but I'm sure some Leonard snuck in there!
Thanks so much, Chip. Means a lot. <3
Between Black Cloak and The Cull it’s certainly the Year of Kelly! So stoked! (Oh, and the little BoP book, right?)

I'm doing my best!!!

Sage words from a true Gentleman fan and patron of the graphic arts!
Good luck “at” the Eisners!

oh there is no limit to how many things I'm jealous about when it comes to James
Gonna be rooting for you at the eisners, Chip!

I made sure all her speeches are at least half an hour long!!
😂 Perfect. I’m sure at least one of those speeches praises Marco, Rafael, & Allison herself, while other speeches roast your enemies into golden brown deliciousness.
Maybe I shouldn’t reply to this when I’m hungry.
